iPhone SE 4 Features OLED Display; Perplexity Launches Mac App on Oct. 15

Punjab News

The iPhone SE 4 is set to impress with an OLED display, an A18 chip, and a 48MP camera while maintaining an affordable price. Meanwhile, Perplexity will launch its Mac app on October 15 to compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the AI search space.

Apple’s iPhone SE 4 is Rumored to Feature an OLED Display, an A18 Chip, a 48MP Camera, and an Affordable Price!

According to a report from Macrumors, Apple is set to release a fully redesigned version of its iPhone SE, with the fourth-generation model anticipated to arrive in spring 2025. This new iteration of Apple’s most budget-friendly smartphone is expected to make substantial advancements by integrating features usually reserved for its premium devices while keeping the price accessible.

The report indicated that the iPhone SE 4 may feature a design similar to the iPhone 14, showcasing a larger 6.1-inch OLED display. This marks a significant upgrade from the current model’s 4.7-inch LCD screen and suggests that Apple is shifting away from LCD technology in favor of OLED for its entire iPhone range.

The transition from LCD to OLED could significantly impact Apple’s longtime suppliers, like Japan Display and Sharp, which have been crucial providers of LCD screens for earlier SE models.

In terms of performance, the iPhone SE 4 is anticipated to come equipped with the A18 chip, the same processor found in the newly released iPhone 16 series. Furthermore, reports suggest that Apple plans to phase out the Touch ID sensor in favor of Face ID, signaling the removal of the physical Home button from iPhones.

Other notable enhancements expected in the new model include a USB-C charging port, which will replace the traditional Lightning connector, and the addition of the Action button, a feature initially introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro series. Presumably, the iPhone SE 4 will have Apple’s custom 5G modem and a 48MP rear camera, representing a significant upgrade from the current 12MP sensor.

One of the major improvements in the iPhone SE 4 will be its RAM, which is expected to double to 8GB. This upgrade will enable the device to support Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-driven features set to launch with iOS 18.1 later this year. This would make the SE 4 the most budget-friendly iPhone capable of utilizing these advanced AI functionalities, which the previous year’s iPhone 15 models could not support.

Despite these notable enhancements, Apple is reportedly looking to maintain the iPhone SE 4’s affordability, with prices projected to be between $400 and $500, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. This pricing strategy is consistent with that of earlier SE models.

Perplexity to Launch Mac App on October 15, Competing with OpenAI’s ChatGPT in AI Search

Perplexity is preparing to launch its native Mac application on October 15. A dedicated landing page is now available on the Mac App Store, providing information about the upcoming release and its features. Alongside this launch, the company will also introduce Perplexity Pro, a premium subscription available through iTunes. This move aims to compete with rivals like OpenAI, which released its ChatGPT app for Mac earlier this year.

The Mac App Store listing states that users can pre-order the Perplexity app, which will automatically install on their devices when released, as long as they are connected to the Internet. This pre-order feature works like the pre-installation options found on Android devices.

The Perplexity Mac app is set to offer all the features found in its web, Android, and iOS versions. Users can input questions, and the AI will search online sources to provide information. Results will be displayed in bullet points and paragraphs, including citations for users to delve deeper and verify facts. Users can also ask follow-up questions, with the AI able to understand the context for more relevant answers. A curated Discover page will help users find new topics to explore.

Earlier this year, Perplexity introduced a Pro Search feature that uses advanced techniques to analyze search queries in detail, especially useful for niche topics. This feature will be part of the Mac app. In the free version, users can only perform five searches every four hours.

The app is 46.8MB and works with MacOS 13 or a newer version. It’s free to download, but the Perplexity Pro subscription offers over 300 Pro Search queries daily, free updates to the latest AI models, and early access to new features. The monthly subscription costs Rs. 1,950, and Mac users can sign up through iTunes.
