In an upcoming podcast, Xbox head Phil Spencer is set to discuss the ‘future of Xbox’ amid swirling rumors of significant strategy changes. Speculation has been rampant that Microsoft might begin releasing its first-party Xbox games on rival platforms such as the Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation 5. These rumors gained momentum after Microsoft hinted it would soon share more about its’ vision for the future of Xbox’ during the Official Xbox Podcast on February 15th.

One of the more surprising claims is that major Xbox exclusives like Starfield, Indiana Jones, The Great Circle, and Hi-Fi Rush could be released on PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. While this might seem unusual, it’s not without precedent—Sony, for instance, publishes many of its PlayStation exclusives on PC via Steam.

Some have taken the rumors further, speculating that Xbox plans to entirely exit the console hardware business. However, this scenario seems unlikely, even with the Xbox Series X/S lagging behind sales of the Switch and PS5. During an internal town hall last week, Xbox head Phil Spencer reportedly reassured employees that Xbox remains committed to building consoles as part of its broader gaming strategy.

Game Pass continues to be a significant selling point for Xbox hardware, with a 2023 survey revealing that 32% of gamers subscribe to the service. Xbox reported over 33 million Game Pass subscribers in 2022, likely even higher today. Meanwhile, Microsoft is thriving—Q2 2024 earnings showed an 18% increase in revenue to $62 billion, with profits reaching $21.9 billion, partly fueled by the impending Activision acquisition.

However, opening Xbox games to other platforms does carry risks. If these exclusives become available everywhere else, what incentive is there to purchase an Xbox? Regardless, the upcoming Official Xbox Podcast promises significant news regarding the future Xbox roadmap so we can expect answers to these questions soon.

This Trick Can Get You a 3-Month Free Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Subscription

Have you just purchased a new Windows gaming PC or handheld? If so, you may have a complimentary 3-month Xbox Game Pass waiting for you, granting access to thousands of PC and console games.

If you recently acquired a Windows-powered gaming device, there’s a strong chance it comes with a free 3-month Xbox Game Pass subscription. Xbox Game Pass allows users to play hundreds of video games for Xbox and PC, providing the opportunity to enjoy major AAA titles at no cost on supported devices.

Most gaming PCs include a three-month Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which enables users to play free games on both PC and Xbox consoles. To redeem your Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you’ll need a Microsoft account, as the subscription will be linked to that account, making it easy to access Game Pass across multiple devices.

To claim your subscription, click on the “library” icon in the bottom left corner of the Xbox app. Then select the “included with device” option to view your Game Pass subscription, and click the “Claim” button to activate it. Enjoy gaming!

Next, you’ll need to add a payment option requiring a credit or debit card. This card will be used to redeem your Xbox Game Pass code. Remember that your card will be charged Rs 549 per month after three months unless you cancel your subscription.

If you’ve previously redeemed an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription on another device, you won’t be able to redeem an additional pass with a new device. In this case, you must create a new Microsoft account to redeem a new subscription.

Additionally, you can redeem Xbox Game Pass through the Xbox app by clicking on the “Redeem Xbox Game Pass Ultimate” banner on the home page, which also requires a debit or credit card.

Microsoft currently offers two types of Xbox Game Pass: the PC Games Pass, which costs Rs 349 per month and provides access to over 100 games exclusively on PC, and the Game Pass Ultimate, priced at Rs 549 per month, which allows users to access over 100 games on both PC and Xbox consoles. You can purchase these subscriptions digitally or buy physical gift cards for Xbox Game Pass that can be redeemed on any device.
