On Friday, Zomato, one of India’s leading online food ordering and delivery platforms, made a public announcement regarding a significant change in its leadership. The company revealed that its co-founder and Chief People Officer, Akriti Chopra, has resigned to explore new opportunities and interests beyond the organization. This announcement signifies a vital transition for Chopra and Zomato itself, as her leadership and strategic vision have been instrumental in shaping the company’s growth and development over the years. Chopra’s contributions to Zomato have helped establish it as a critical player in the competitive food delivery market, and her departure will be felt throughout the organization.

Chopra, classified as a senior management executive within the organization, formally submitted her resignation, which is set to take effect on September 27, 2024. This crucial information was disclosed in a regulatory filing by Zomato, underscoring the official nature of her departure and the procedures being followed. The timeline provided allows for a necessary transition period, during which the company can adequately prepare for the leadership changes. This preparation phase is essential to ensure a smooth handover of her responsibilities and to maintain continuity in the company’s operations. The transition will allow Zomato to identify potential successors and implement any necessary changes to its organizational structure.

Akriti Chopra, a key figure at Zomato, has dedicated an impressive 13 years to the company, playing a pivotal role in its evolution and success. Her tenure, which includes her previous role as Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has been instrumental in establishing and expanding the company’s legal and finance teams. Chopra’s focus on managing the financial health of the company and ensuring robust legal frameworks and compliance measures have been vital in creating a solid foundation for Zomato, allowing it to navigate the complexities of the food delivery industry with confidence.

Chopra’s contributions have profoundly impacted shaping the internal structure of Zomato, allowing the company to adapt and thrive in a highly competitive market. Her leadership and strategic vision have helped streamline operations and positioned Zomato for sustained growth as it continues to innovate and expand its offerings. With a deep understanding of the industry and a strong focus on organizational effectiveness, Chopra’s extensive experience has been invaluable in guiding Zomato’s strategic direction and operational success. As she prepares to leave the company, her departure marks a noteworthy moment for Zomato, signifying the end of an era and presenting new opportunities for growth and transformation within the organization.

Before joining Zomato, Akriti Chopra spent three years at PwC, one of the largest professional services firms in the world. During her time there, she focused on tax and regulatory practice, where she gained valuable experience and expertise in navigating complex tax laws and regulations. This role allowed her to develop a deep understanding of compliance and strategic financial planning, which she later applied to her work at Zomato, helping to shape the company’s financial strategies and legal frameworks.

In January of the previous year, another co-founder of Zomato, Gunjan Patidar, who served as the Chief Technology Officer, decided to resign after more than a decade of dedicated service to the company. His departure marked a significant transition, as Patidar had been a critical player in Zomato’s technological advancements and overall growth. Additionally, in November 2022, another co-founder, Mohit Gupta, announced his resignation. Gupta’s journey with Zomato saw him rise through the ranks, ultimately elevated to co-founder status in 2020 after serving as the CEO of Zomato’s food delivery business. His contributions were vital in establishing Zomato as a leader in the food delivery industry, and his departure added to the notable changes in the company’s leadership structure.
